West Bend Theatre Company is pleased to announce the appointment of Sothaviney “Viney” Pheng to its Board of Directors to serve a two-year term.

Pheng joins the board after making his theatrical debut with two shows in 2019 – both with the West Bend Theatre Company.

In July, Pheng starred in the West Bend Theatre Company’s production of “South Pacific.” He had several roles in the show – ensemble, U.S. sailor and Henry (Emile DeBeque’s butler/manservant). Then in December, he returned to the stage with “A Christmas Carol.” He was one of the businessman and in the ensemble. He starred in both productions alongside his daughter, Nina.

When not on stage, Pheng works as a domestic purchaser with Custom Service Hardware in Cedarburg.

Asked about why he joined the board, Pheng said he’s a big fan of Winston Churchill: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.

Pheng is originally from Cambodia and immigrated to San Francisco when he was 10 years old. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science from San Francisco State University. He then served 10 years in the Army.

After leaving the Army, Pheng relocated to West Bend in 1999. He is a former deacon at First Baptist Church in West Bend, as well as a former West Bend School Board member.

“Viney has been delightful to work with and he brings a servant leadership philosophy that makes all of us proud to share board service with him,” said Nancy Storrs, WBTC President. “His school board experience elevates the caliber of our board as a whole. We're grateful to have him serve with us.”

Founded in 2010, incorporated in 2017, the West Bend Theatre Company is a non-profit theater entity presenting live theater, camps, workshops and special events.
